


2023 Amador County Syrah
Ken Bailey’s vineyard sits at 2,900 feet elevation just a stone’s throw from the historically rich and irresistibly charming town of Volcano. Every year I look forward to making this wine because, well, I love Syrah. I believe this is one of the greatest sites in the county to express this grape. I always ferment this wine 100% whole cluster and it is always basket pressed. It is then aged in neutral barrels, this vintage in 500L puncheon, and bottled after 11 months.
2023 was an incredible vintage for California wine quality. The season never wanted to get started and never wanted to end but what we got made stellar wine. The Syrah was no different and was a dream to ferment with excellent chemistry. I decided to give it its turn in puncheon and tasting the wine now, it certainly was the right choice. A bit more on the savory side this year with the white and black pepper taking more center stage over the primary fruit.
One 500L pucheon produced. 13.5% ALC
