2023 Fiddletown Barbera
With the 2023 vintage of Fiddletown Barbera, my second effort, it was clear immediately after I pressed the wine that this would be a special vintage. I decided to include 50% whole cluster in the fermentation to give the wine a bit more structure and it paid off. This wine is deep in color, high in acid with plenty of fruit and an extremely long finish. Certainly one of the over achievers in this year's lineup. Don't skip it.
This block of fruit is in a far flung section of the vineyard, terraced into a steep hillside and surrounded by many species of birds, animals, plants and insects. Each visit refeals a new level of fascination with the soils that are full of protruding chunks of quartz, granite and schist. A special place that makes a special wine.
5 1/2 barrels prodcued. 14.2% ALC
