2024 Amador Barbera

$28.00

Entering into the fourth vintage of making this wine from Jim Riskas’ Oleta Vineyard in the Fiddletown AVA of Amador County, I feel confident in saying that this site is so unique and will consistently make great wine for many years to come. The 2024 vintage is no different and yet again, this high acid variety, grown in Ahwahnee Very Rocky Loam on a steep terraced hillside has lended itself to making a stellar wine. Some whole cluster adds another dimention to the weight and mouthfeel that fills in the middle while the bright and brambly red and black fruit kisses the acidity and creates a long mouth-watering finish. The label tells a different story than most of the birds. A mountain lion, ubiquitous in the El Dorado AVA that backs up to Fiddletown, stares at you from the bottle. Jim heard a sound like none other, locked up his trailer and loaded his pistol. A week later, I’m sampling the vineyard, and on the ground is a dead deer that had clearly met its demise from the jaws of a predator. A mountain lion? Maybe. Let’s just say I started to make a lot of noise while sampling from then on.

The wine is fermented with native yeast from partial whole cluster and de-stemmed fruit and then aged in neutral oak barrels for 11 months. Five barrels produced.

Must be 21+ to purchase.

*Two bottle minimum (total order) for all shipping orders.
